New flower beds and improvements are in progress at our Central Park. The GRAND
OPENING and dedication ceremony will take place on June 22nd at 4 p.m. to rename
our park to Veterans Centennial Park. A hotdog BBQ and drinks will be served from

Chamber:
Community Project Fund Raiser. The Chamber
will be organizing a Semi-Formal Ballroom Dance to take place at Kenaston Place
this New Year's Eve, December 31st/05. Tickets will be available by July 1st from
any chamber member, from Heather's Korner, or by mail order through Glen Pavelich.
To ensure that this event is well promoted and widely known we are starting now
to determine the level of interest from Kenaston and neighboring communities.
The event, complete with festive ambiance and dancing comfort, will feature ballroom,
western and free style dance performances, a mid-evening luncheon table, and
full bar service. Tickets will be available to adults only at $30.00 per couple
and will not be sold at the door. You do not have to know how to ball room dance
to attend. If there is likelihood that you will want to attend, please purchase
a ticket now (by cheque) so we can confirm, on or before Autumn Action Day, whether
the event is guaranteed. (If it is not, your cheque will be returned to you).
Anyone interested in working on the ballroom dance committee please contact Glen
Pavelich. Kenaston could be dancing again!.
Tourism:
The Between the Lakes Development Group is comprised of council members and
mayors from the communities between Diefenbaker Lake and Long Lake (highways #2,
#11, #19 and #15). This organization has created a promotional place mat featuring
attractions, points of interest, and calendar of events for each of the represented
communities. The place mats are intended as a tourism strategy and are available
free of charge, from the village office, to any community group sponsoring an
event. Let the village office know if you would like to add your local event to
the listings.

Committee: The Business Development Committee is investigating
the proposal that we establish an independent living complex in Kenaston. In June
we will be issuing a survey to gather your responses regarding need of, and desire
for, such a project. As opposed to moving to Davidson, Outlook or Saskatoon, an
independent living facility would enable our senior's to stay here at home, as
so many have already stated would be their preference. Watch for the survey. Environmental

Tourism
Campaign 2005: Kenaston
has four tourism projects in progress; restoration of our water tower, construction
of a pavilion displaying a piece of antique machinery used to build Louis Riel
Trail, the walking trail (Phase II), and a "school marm" highway symbol
representing our prairie heritage. With your help these projects can be completed.
Donations gratefully accepted (payable to the Village of Kenaston).
Our
Park Benches will be in place very soon along "Mick's Way" Walking Trail. Community
Spirit: Kenaston
and District Chamber of Commerce wants to nominate a "Community Hero" from our area for CBC Radio's "Gallery in the Summer" heard June through
August on Saturdays at 5 p.m. Over the summer CBC will be recognizing eighteen
local Saskatchewan heros. If you wish to recommend someone who has made our community
a better place, contact Cora Greer 544-2734 and give her details.
Garden
Party: On Thursday August 4th at 2:00, Pavelich Farm
BnB will host an afternoon social for seniors and gardeners. Stroll the gardens,
walk the labyrinth or just sit and visit over coffee and pie. Contact Glen, or
the Adam's Center Club if you wish to attend or assist.
Real
Estate:
Empty houses in Kenaston mean fewer numbers in our community, in our school, and
fewer residents to support our businesses and services. Place your house, land,
acreage, farm, building or lot, whether in town or in the surrounding area, free
of charge on our website at www.kenaston.ca. Land for sale near the Kenaston village
boundaries is especially of interest to the council and chamber. Both organizations
are willing to help you promote your lot as a potential housing or business site.
Contact: Bob Mason 544-2734.

you are interested in starting a business here at home, come to the chamber as
part of your strategy for getting started. The chamber meets to plan for Kenaston's
future and is very willing to support your business interests. ML Whittles: 252-2236 Website,

Tip of the Month: Be Prepared! Tornado warning signs: severe
thunderstorms, with frequent thunder and lightning
an extremely dark sky, sometimes highlighted by green or yellow clouds,
a rumbling sound, such as a freight train, or a whistling sound, such as a jet
aircraft, a funnel
cloud at the rear base of a thundercloud, often behind a curtain of heavy rain
or hail. Things to do in case of a tornado:
Listen to your radio during severe thunderstorms. Environment Canada issues a
tornado warning immediately.
If you hear that a tornado warning has been issued for your area, take cover immediately.
Go to the basement or take shelter in a small interior ground floor room such
as a bathroom, closet or hallway. Failing that, protect yourself by taking shelter
under a heavy table or desk.
In all cases, stay away from windows, outside walls and doors. Avoid buildings
such as gymnasiums, churches and auditoriums with wide-span roofs. These roofs
do not have supports in the middle and may collapse if a tornado hits them.
Do not get caught in a car or mobile home.
If no shelter is available, lie down in a ditch.
Beware of flooding from downpours.
If you are driving and spot a tornado in the distance, try to get to a nearby
shelter. If the tornado is close, get out of your car and take cover in a low-lying
area. If a tornado
seems to be standing still, then it is either travelling away from you or heading
right for you. In all cases, get as close to the ground as possible, protect your
head and watch out for flying debris. Small objects such as sticks and straws
can become lethal weapons when driven by a tornado's winds.
