Great School NewsUpdate from Darren Gasper, Principal Kenaston School / Distance Learning Centre. The Sun West Division Board has approved an increase of our staff for next year as we had proposed an expansion of our distance education programming. Many of the courses that we currently offer to Sun West students will now be made available across the province. We are also expanding our programming choices to include courses such as Exercise Science for students planning to enter any Health Science related careers or in the area of Kinesiology. We also have plans to become the provincial centre for the Green Certificate courses offered through the Ministry of Agriculture - these include Field Crop Production, Cow/Calf Production, Feedlots, Dairy, Sheep and possibly Equine Production. Several other courses are also being developed. The second project at our school will also involve the development of K-9 courses for use by home school families across the province. Currently there are no suppliers available that match the Saskatchewan curriculums and families have had to purchase materials from Alberta, BC or the U.S. These materials will also be of great benefit to the other schools throughout Sun West, so the Board has approved additional staff to help develop and print these materials. In total, an additional 4.25 staff will be added next year - this also includes a Vice-Principal position and I am pleased to congratulate Ryan Johnson on his appointment to the position. I am looking forward to working with him in his new role next year. In total we will have 15.5 teachers based at our school - 8.0 based on our enrollment and the additional 7.5 for distance ed and home school development. These additions will continue to provide many benefits to the students of our school and the added long term security of the school. Our staff certainly appreciates the support and confidence of the Board in moving ahead on these projects and in helping make Kenaston School one of the most unique schools in the Province.
