5. Education
We are proud of our K-12 school which has an excellent group
of enthusiastic and community-spirited teachers, provides child-centered learning
for 170 students, and encourages parent involvement in the school program. The
Kenaston School has recently been enlarged and features, along with the standard
classrooms, a computer lab with high speed internet access, an industrial arts
room (including drafting, welding, and carpentry), a home economics lab, and a
large gymnasium with a stage.
The kindergarten room has its own bathroom facilities.
The school playground is complete with trees, grass, and up-to-date playground
equipment.
The
school architecture accommodates special needs students with electric doors and
wheelchair accessible entrances. The curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of
children with a variety of learning challenges.
The
Kenaston Co-op Play School program is housed in the school. Although operated
independently of the school, it accesses the school environment and gives the
preschool children an opportunity to feel comfortable in the school before they
are required to be there. As play school helpers, their parents are given the
opportunity to feel that they are partners in their child's education from the
very beginning.
The
Kenaston School offers a program providing International Students the opportunity
to become more fluent in the English language in a rural environment, while at
the same time offers our students an opportunity to participate in global learning.
This program endeavours to foster appreciation for the enrichment that is achieved
through the celebration of cultural diversity. The
Kenaston School is part of the Sunwest School Division. More information is available
at their website http://www.sunwestsd.ca.
